My travels to Cuba ushered in a new approach to understanding the world around me. My time there brought me new family, new thought processes, a profound feeling of connection and a sense of sadness all at the same time. It’s difficult to put into words why I feel such a strong connection with a land that I’ve only just come to know. But simple head nods and strong embraces cemented a feeling of being home. The affirmations from the people who greeted me with love and assured me that “we are the same”.
